Last week I wrote about the healing power of pleasure. It got me thinking about healing in general and what helps us to heal or feel better. I know for me having fun and cultivating beauty in my life are two of the most healing energies I can tap into.
Let’s face it we live in a harsh world with many forces that wear us down, stress us to the max, and present us with daily challenges that often leave us feeling disheartened and discouraged. It can take discipline to get out and have fun or do something to bring a little beauty into our lives when our spirits may be low.
I often wonder why life can’t be easier —kind of like a 5 star resort with turquoise blue water, scrumptious food, loving people, exotic flowers, clear blue skies and beauty and pleasure all around.
I guess if life was like that we wouldn’t grow, evolve and learn the lessons we all came here to learn.
While we can’t live in a 5-star resort all the time, we can bring the healing power of beauty into our lives and let it heal and soothe our body, mind and soul. Ultimately, this will lift our vibration and transport us into a higher frequency of healing.
Once in a higher frequency, we are better able to tap into inner guidance and chose our best next steps in life. More things feel possible and life flows with enhanced grace and ease.
So what are some good ways to cultivate the healing power of beauty? Here are some of my favorite.
- Get out in Nature
It’s hard to beat the beauty of Mother Nature and the bounty all around us in the natural world. Get out and take a walk or hike, swim in the ocean, watch the sunset, listen to the birds and feel the sun on your skin.
In the summer, I walk on the beach near my house for about an hour in the morning before going into work. It is a meditation for me to hear the sound of the waves and feel the sand beneath my feet. When I return home, I feel more connected to myself and more present for what needs to happen next. It makes a huge difference in my day and helps me to be more available both to myself and my clients.
- Tap into Your Creativity and Make Beauty
Everyone can make beauty. You do not need to be an artist. I cannot draw or paint a picture, but I love to make things look beautiful. I have been known to get lost in hours of HGTV and spend way too much time agonizing over the right paint colors for rooms in my house. I love to decorate, pick out furniture and hang pictures in just the right place.
Find your own expression of beauty and get lost in it. Do you like to paint, sculpt, scrapbook, cook an awesome meal, take photographs or garden? If so, throw yourself into it with abandon. Feel yourself become one with the moment, get lost in time and tap into those creative juices. It will calm your mind and soothe your soul.
- Question Your Sense of Reality
This is a bit more of a challenge. Since our minds create meaning out of our experiences and what is happening all around us, it is up to us how we view our life. It is not so much what is happening to us that is good or bad, painful or pleasurable, beautiful or not. It is the interpretation we have or the stories we make about what is happening that determines their meaning.
If you want to cultivate more beauty in your life, learn to be less judgmental about what is happening. Be more accepting and compassionate both with yourself and with others. I listen to clients all week long create stories about what is happening in their lives. As I work with them on challenging and changing their stories to ones that feel better and are more compassionate, things change.
Life feels easier, lighter and more open to possibilities. Once again, this shifts your vibration and allows a higher frequency to come in. From this place of higher frequency and a more positive viewpoint, we are better able to see and create beauty.
Try these three steps and let me know what you experience. As far as I am concerned, there can never be too much beauty in the world. The world needs your brand of beauty! Go for it and see how it soothes and heals your mind, body and soul…
