The Healing Power of Pleasure

by Nancy Harris Leave a Comment

The Healing Power of PleasureThere are more and more messages these days about the healing power of pleasure. Well known doctors such as Christiane Northrup and Sara Gottfried are providing us with the scientific reasons why pleasure is so healing to our bodies, minds, and souls.

Pleasure decreases our stress hormones, raises our neurotransmitters, inhibits cellular inflammation and slows down the aging process. If we could bottle and sell that, it would be the best selling drug available.

However, the point is, we can do this on our own.

We just need to give ourselves permission to experience more fun, more joy and more of whatever turns us on.

Last week I listened to some of The Red Tent Revival presented online by Kristin Sweeting Morelli.  Kristin and her guests discussed the role of pleasure in awakening and cultivating the potent feminine energy within all women that is waiting to be fully activated.

It was touching and beautiful to see a community of women come together to discuss such things as sensual dance, sacred sexuality, loving your body and how to express the empowered feminine in a relationship so as to honor and bring out the best in a man.

Why isn’t this mainstream discussion and behavior?

Our ability to access more pleasurable states of being has been suppressed long enough and it is time for all of us to do something about it both individually and collectively.

It feels like a movement is afoot to awaken women to their latent power that, for many of us, has lied dormant for far too long. There is a collective shift that is bringing this forth and creating a safe and supportive community for women worldwide to step into their full power and vibrancy and to live more fulfilling lives. Tapping into pleasure is a part of this process.

What I have seen and observed in my clients, friends, and in my own life is that it is becoming increasingly painful for women to deny their desires and pleasure and to act as if they don’t matter. When we do this, our light goes out and we become shadows of who we truly are. Our life force diminishes and we lose touch with our true essence as radiant beings.

It can be challenging in our culture to take the time to cultivate pleasure. When I talk to women about this, I often hear about how they don’t want to be selfish, don’t want to offend or hurt anyone, or how they lack the time or energy to focus too much time on themselves.

Yet, while they say these words, I can see the lack of sparkle in their eyes and feel the flat tone in their voice.

Underneath the resistance, I know there is a woman literally dying to be set free to access her deeper desires and tap into their potent wisdom and energy.

Needless to say, the healing power of pleasure is not just for women but for men, too. We all need more fun and joy in our lives. It is also very healing and important for couples to make pleasure and fun a central aspect of their relationship as many bonding chemicals and hormones are released when we experience pleasure with another person.

So how can you get more of this in your life?

First recognize pleasure as a priority and a healing component of being alive, not as a frivolous act for irresponsible folks with nothing better to do.

Cultivate a list of fun and pleasurable things you’d like to do and start doing them either alone or with a friend or partner. Make it a regular part of your life, not something that is relegated to “free time”.

And then notice how you feel when you make more time for pleasure in your life. How does your body feel, do you sleep better, eat better and perhaps exercise more? How does your mind feel? Do you feel happier, more able to focus and get things done? How about your soul? Do you feel more peaceful, on purpose and aware of what is most important in your life?

Those are great benefits from something fun and enjoyable.

If you would like to explore more of the power of pleasure in your life, I have designed my coaching program, Divine Feminine Living, to support a woman in taking these steps, as well as others, to connect more deeply with herself, reclaim her joy and feel more alive and on purpose in her life.

I am currently offering complimentary 30 minute Discovery Sessions to anyone interested in exploring this. If interested, please feel free to fill out my contact form on my website. It would be my pleasure to assist you in living your life to the fullest.
