I’m starting to see the fatigue set in. It’s been a year in lockdown now. When I look into my clients’ eyes I see the confusion, the pain, the lost dreams and the deep, deep fatigue. The human spirit is being challenged like never before in our lifetimes.
Lives and future plans have been put on hold. Loneliness has become second nature for many. Fear is rampant. There are basic health concerns, financial fears, fear for aging parents and concern about the psychological damage to children.
Uncomfortable feelings are being tamped down with mindless activities that are becoming habitual and addictive. People are losing their social skills and becoming more comfortable with a computer screen than another human being.
Trust is eroding in our governmental structures. People are angry, polarized, arguing and attacking. No one really knows what is true or who to believe.
If you really think about it, nothing really makes much sense anymore. Please think about it. Use critical thinking and form your own opinions.
How could you not feel like you have lost your bearings? This was not the life any of us were expecting.
This week I have heard the same thing over and over. There are always common themes with my clients. They are telling me they feel unmotivated, kind of lost and can’t seem to connect with anything that inspires them to move forward.
Well, the good news is this seems like a normal response to a completely abnormal situation. This is a time that calls for us to become resilient and reformat our direction and dreams.
How do we do this?
First, I think we all have to look at how we have managed to get through this past year one way or another. It is not a time to be self-critical for not doing a better job at it. That will only add to the exhaustion you may be feeling.
Next, practice acceptance of what is. This will be easier for some depending on how much you have personally been impacted. Life on planet earth has always been fraught with calamity, tragedy, and great human suffering. We have been relatively fortunate in this country to have escaped the worst of it. However, we are not being spared now.
Once you stop fighting what is, you will free up energy. Begin to re-evaluate your life. What have you learned this past year about yourself and life in general? Who and what are important to you? How do you want to spend your time? How can you help and make a difference?
Use this time to improve yourself, to grow and to evolve. Put your focus on the things under your control which are basically your own thoughts, feelings and actions. You get to chose who you spend time with and what you watch and listen to. Choses wisely. The energy you engage in will either uplift you or bring you down and demotivate you.
It’s so easy to engage in the fear and toxicity right now, but become aware of how that is ultimately a distraction from taking ownership of your own life. It is disempowering to put the focus “out there” when there is not much you can do about it. It’s a recipe for feeling lost, disheartened and hopeless.
Come back to yourself, reclaim your power from the collective meltdown and refuse to let it take you totally off course. It’s true we cannot do many of the things we would like right now, but we still have choice. You can pivot, redirect and reconnect with your inner guidance and create an updated vision for your life.
No matter how crazy it gets “out there”, there is always a wise, loving guiding force inside each of us. If we all chose to listen to our own wise voice, the madness would cease and we could find sane solutions that serve the upliftment of all.
It’s worth a try isn’t it? Maybe your old dreams are no longer as relevant in these times, but perhaps there is a bigger purpose and dream waiting to be discovered. Get motivated! We need all hands on deck now.
