We all want to create changes in our lives. I listen to people’s dreams and desires all week long. Some of them are very inspiring and other’s not so much. I’m always curious what makes one person really want to go for their dreams and another simply want to maintain the status quo with perhaps a little tweak.
There are so many factors that play into this such as family history, past traumas, previous disappointments, failures or successes, whether the person has ever been encouraged and supported before and perhaps even less tangible things like karma, soul contracts and one’s destiny.
But one thing I know for sure when it comes to creating change and fulfilling one’s dreams is that mindset is key. If you believe you can do something and make it non-negotiable, the universal forces appear to conspire on your behalf.
I am about to take on some big changes and when my mind wants to tell me I am crazy, my mantra is, “Failure is not an option.” That calms me right down and puts me in reality. My reality. Not the reality of friends and family who want to caution me or suggest I reconsider.
When we work on our mindset we optimize our best chances at success.
When I start working with a new client, I always begin with their hopes, dreams, and goals. I want to know their “why” for hiring me as their coach. Yet, when they are telling me what they want more of, I am always listening and feeling the energy beneath their words. If the energy is shaky and the “why” is not strong enough, I know we need to do more than create an action plan and set up accountability.
Most people know what steps they need to take, but they are not taking them. That’s why they hire a coach. They are stuck and don’t know why or what to do about it. In these cases, mindset is the primary factor that needs addressing.
So how can you work on your mindset?
1. Keep Quiet
Stop talking with every acquaintance, friend, family member and virtual stranger about what you want to do or create. Talking too much to others, outside of a trusted mentor or confidant, is one of the fastest way to dilute your power and rattle your mindset. You will pick up everyone else’s fear, projections, resistance, envy and every other toxic emotion imaginable.
Go inside and follow your own inner compass. You have one and it wants you to pay attention to it. That’s your most important resource. Partner with it and watch how it steadies your nerves, feeds your confidence, keeps you on track and aligns you with miracles.
2. Make Your Desires Non-Negotiable
When you truly desire to make something happen or create some kind of change, simply commit. I know. It’s not always simple, but do it anyway. Once you align with your compass or inner guidance and connect with a true desire, stop questioning it to death. Get out of drama zone and stay focused on what you want. Walk in the direction of your desire as if it has already happened. Your desires want to come to you. Desires are the seeds to your destiny. Believe they are there for a reason.
Once you make your desire non-negotiable, the action steps are revealed one step at a time. Just take the next step. Do not try and figure it all out. You won’t be able to. Keep focused in the present moment. When you stay in the present and give your mind something to focus on, it calms down and behaves itself.
3. Express Gratitude
When you go to gratitude you are affirming that your desire has already manifested. This takes faith and faith is the key to an unfaltering mindset. Act as if it has happened and be thankful. This does not mean you will not have to do your part. On the contrary we live in a material world that requires concrete action steps.
For example, I have been preparing to sell my house. It has taken a lot of prep work–hours of it…I have been emptying closets, organizing, staging, cleaning, giving stuff away, etc. Yet, I wanted an easy, fast sell with few people traipsing through my house. I prepared and asked the Universe to partner with me. I asked for guidance on a price, realtor, timing, (no mercury retrograde…), etc.
What happened? The realtor never even put it on MLS. She had a few interested people via word-of-mouth and we sold it in 2 hours. Full-price offer. Voila. No drama, low stress. Preparation meets opportunity and success happens. I am grateful.
I am convinced it went so well because I created it that way in my mind first, discussed it with only a few people and held steady to that vision.
Give these steps a try and see how they stabilize your mindset. Get the help of a coach. The investment of time and money will come back to you in forward momentum and the fulfillment of your dreams.
