In my recent blog entitled, Is Your Old Life Dying?, I wrote about the way in which life is speeding up these days and so many of us are seeing our old lives fall away while being called to birth something new. Many times we have no idea what this new life is supposed to be or how we are going to create it, but the old way of living simply feels outdated, suffocating, uninspired and boring. I especially see this in the clients I work with who are in their late 30’s to mid-fifties and beyond.
This can be a time of great disorientation, agitation and frustration that can leave one feeling a bit disheartened, battered and bruised.
It can be hard to keep the faith that something new and better awaits us on the other side of this journey when all we can feel is confusion and chaos mixed with uncertainty and fear.
I often see clients approach this process of transition and rebirth with dogged determination to tackle this problem, figure it out and take massive action to make things right. However, I rarely see anyone get very far with this approach. As a matter of fact, this approach tends to keep people stuck spinning their wheels and feeling increasingly frustrated and immobilized.
My job as a coach is to help my clients through this process.
When I see clients stuck in spinning the wheels of their rational minds to figure out issues of the heart and soul, I know I am in murky territory. We are all so enculturated and trained that our minds reign supreme and have the ultimate answers to our most pressing problems. However, let’s all take a moment to reflect on how far that has gotten us….both individually and collectively.
Need I say more?
After I spend sufficient time listening to my clients spin their thoughts and mental arguments that are keeping them stuck, I suggest that perhaps there is another way to approach their problems.
I then gently guide my clients into their bodies where there is an inner well of wisdom, compassion and inner guidance.
I guide them to close their eyes, focus on their breathing and seek the quiet place inside that we all intuitively know exists. When I do this, they quiet down, their voices change, their energy shifts and their answers emerge often instantaneously.
For example, yesterday I was working with a coaching client who is out of work and seeking a career transition. While exploring her career options she is doing some volunteer work that she thinks is “good for her and her career advancement”. She began to list all the reasons she is doing this volunteer job, how it is benefitting the community and helping her make personal and professional contacts.
Sounds good, but something felt “off” to me. At one point, I asked her to go within and tell me how she really feels about this volunteer job. She responded, “It makes me want to scream! It’s annoying. The people are annoying. It’s wasting my time. I want to do other things.” Ok… Which voice are you going to listen to here?
I’m proposing that the “new way of living” is really a much gentler, softer, compassionate approach that really isn’t “new”, but perhaps has been buried in the more forceful masculine energy of modern day life and the culture we have been raised in.
However, this culture is now in its own cycle of death and rebirth. Look at all that has fallen apart in the last 7-8 years…economies, governments, financial institutions, and many positions of power and authority immersed in the masculine energy and patriarchal paradigm.
Amidst all of this death and rebirth, there is a new energy coming in…
It is a more feminine energy based in love, compassion, equality, respect, receptivity and yielding to intuition, inner guidance and holistic thinking that includes the greater good of all involved. I have no doubt this is what the Dali Lama was referring to when he said, “The world will be saved by the western woman.”
Some refer to his energy as the divine feminine. It is a nurturing, loving energy that is birthing a new consciousness on the planet. This concept is a bit amorphous and hard to grasp, yet many of us are beginning to feel it and talk about it.
I have designed my signature coaching program, Divine Feminine Living to honor and utilize this new energy and consciousness. I have found when we do tap into this awareness, life becomes easier, more intuitive and we feel guided by a greater intelligence and wisdom.
We can learn to relax and ask for guidance and trust our needs will be taken care of provided we do our part. In order to do our part, we need to follow the inspired actions we feel guided to take.
When we do this synchronicity happens, things flow and the magic and spark we often experienced as kids, before we were told things are “impossible”, begins to happen once again. Life can then unfold in irrational, inexplicable and sometimes magical ways…
Do you believe in magic?
Give it a try. What have you got to lose?
