I recently attended a conference with my mentor coach and 150 women who are currently taking her year-long coach training program. My mentor is a highly successful, well-known, accomplished, transformational coach who teaches the business, mindset, and coaching skills to create a thriving business in this field. She has developed a multi-million dollar coaching company, which is rare in this field, knows what it takes to do so, and teaches by example as any true mentor does.
However, I have been around the personal growth arena long enough to have heard the stories and seen the examples of mentors preaching one thing and showing up as another.
We’ve all heard the stories of the well-known person who has the persona of being all wise and loving, but treats her staff, employees or general public as second class citizens who are underpaid, mistreated and unappreciated.
Over the years of working with clients as a psychotherapist and life coach, I have witnessed many people go through periods of time in which they felt everything was falling apart. Life is full of unexpected losses, changes, and transitions such as an illness, a job loss, a divorce, a cross-country move, a major financial setback, etc. However, there are those times in life in which multiple uncontrollable events may be happening all at once that push you to the edge of your ability to cope and keep you from wanting to get out of bed in the morning.
I have been a participant this year in a program called Your Year of Miracles led by NY Times best-selling author Marci Shimoff and success expert Debra Poneman. The program has had some of the most notable inspirational teachers, thought leaders and authors as weekly guest speakers and we have been taught some of the best tools available for making life changes.
Part of my purpose as a transformational coach is to help my clients achieve success in their life. Since success is often about the fulfillment of one’s goals, I generally start by asking my clients what they would like to accomplish in our work together and how I may help them the most.
One of my favorite things to do on Sunday mornings is to watch Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday series in which she interviews some of the best authors, spiritual teachers and thought leaders of our time. It is always uplifting, inspiring, educational and truly food for your soul. Who doesn’t need more of that right now?
