Endings Lead to New Beginnings

by Nancy Harris Leave a Comment

Something has been happening this year to a lot of people who I have been speaking with. Things are ending. Things they never thought would end.

Is this anything new? I don’t know. Life is full of endings…and new beginnings. It’s always been that way—since the beginning of time, I suppose.

Buddhism states that all life is suffering due to the impermanence of everything.

Non-attachment is a useful skill. Easier said than done. We all want to feel we can count on someone and something to be there for us, especially in times of deep need.

I recently read the book, The Surrender Experiment, by Michael Singer. In this book he describes his decades-long practice of saying “yes” to people, circumstances and opportunities that entered his life whether or not his ego-mind wanted to say yes.

Rough Times Ahead?

by Nancy Harris Leave a Comment

I think most of us would agree, it’s been a bumpy ride this year globally, nationally and individually for many of us.

I believe our consciousness has a lot to do with the circumstances surrounding us. Many of us have been asleep and unconscious for a long time.

We have unwittingly participated in creating the mess.

It’s time to wake up.

There’s no more time for apathy, avoidance, denial and procrastination. We can’t keep thinking someone else will take care of the problems. We are largely in the position we are in because of our narrow-sightedness and unwillingness to pay attention to what is happening in our personal lives and the collective as a whole.

Hence, here we are. Rough times ahead?

No doubt.

But, how rough it gets will depend somewhat on how we handle ourselves in the storm. This is true in life’s daily struggles as well as with the larger global events.

Happy Holidays!

by Nancy Harris Leave a Comment

Wishing you a beautiful holiday season…

And a fabulous New Year!

I often wonder what the world would be like if certain people were still here. John Lennon is one of those people. In his honor, I would like to remind us all of his vision for a more beautiful world. This song was released in 1971 during the Vietnam War.

We still have a long way to go! Make this next year your best…

IMAGINE

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you
You may say that I’m a dreamer,
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
(Thanks, John. May he Rest in Peace.)

What it Feels Like to Grow

by Nancy Harris 1 Comment

One of the most common phrases I hear people say when we discuss steps to change their life is, “That’s hard…!”

I often respond by saying, “What you are doing now is hard!”

Yeah, sorry…growth is often hard. That’s the truth. I won’t sugar coat it or lie…

I won’t waste your time or money promising quick fixes and easy solutions to most of life’s challenges and problems.

I’ve been around long enough to know there are no quick fixes and no real shortcuts to sustained growth and transformation.

I don’t do bandaid therapy or superficial life coaching. I haven’t found it to work. What works is the true grit of deep self-determination, self-confrontation and the courage to do what it takes to move through blocks and fears.

I have seen people work miracles in their lives when they stick with it. It is often my most down and out client who surprises me the most with the transformation they make. People amaze me. You never know what guts they have.

Are You Being Drained By An “Energy Vampire”?

by Nancy Harris 1 Comment

I’ve recently been reading Dr. Christiane Northrup’s new book, Dodging Energy Vampires. This book is a life-saver for highly sensitive people, also known as empaths, who are often the target for “energy vampires”.

In a nutshell, Dr. Northrup is describing what has commonly been referred to as narcissistic abuse. Narcissistic abuse is perpetrated by “energy vampires” on the sensitive souls who they covertly feed off of in order to fuel their own emptiness and dysfunction.

Energy vampires are typically individuals with a character disorder such as narcissism, borderline personally disorder, sociopathy and psychopathy. They can be very charming, disarming and seductive when luring someone into a relationship which is one of the reasons it is so hard to break away.

When things turn bad, the empath is often blind-sided and strives to get back to the “good stuff” which was there in the early days of the relationship. The empath will often continually over-give while receiving less and less in return over time.
