How to Find Peace Amidst the Overwhelm

by Nancy Harris Leave a Comment

How to Find Peace Amidst the OverwhelmIt seems like half the clients I spoke with last week told me how overwhelmed they are. When I asked what was going on I heard about sick friends dying, fear of job loss, relationship break-ups, divorce dramas and financial strain.

It seems like life is always throwing something unexpected our way. Just when we get through one thing and think it’s now going to be OK, something else often comes along to disturb our peace of mind.

In exploring the pain of these situations further with my clients, they began to say things like, “I don’t think I’ll ever make more money than I do now.”  “I’m afraid I’ll never meet anyone to be in a relationship with.” And, “What if I never find a new job?”

It was clear that it’s not just what is happening in our lives that causes us pain, it is all the out-of-control thoughts that our mind thinks about what is going on that makes things worse.

Our minds are so good at future-tripping and creating negative fantasies that it is a wonder any of us get out of bed in the morning.

And when you take the difficult circumstances going on in our lives at any given time and couple it with the constant chaos in the world, you have a recipe for chronic low-grade overwhelm that dulls our ability to fully experience and participate in life.

So how can we deal with this better? Here’s three quick steps:

How to Reclaim Your Feminine Power, Part 2

by Nancy Harris Leave a Comment

How to Reclaim Your Feminine Power, Part 2In last week’s blog I talked about three ways to reclaim your feminine power. This week, I want to expand upon that topic since I feel it is so important to the happiness and full expression of all women and to the healing of our masculine-dominant culture that has spun out-of-control and is in desperate need of balance, wholeness and integration.

So, what is feminine power?

I view feminine power as being in touch with and able to express the qualities of inner guidance, intuition, receptivity, nurturance, compassion, open-heartedness, surrender, sensuality, emotions and feelings. It is also being able to balance these feminine qualities with the empowered masculine qualities of creating goals, taking purposeful action, developing structure, and making things happen.

Ultimately, feminine power is being able to live from our deepest truth, feel happy, fulfilled and actualize our gifts and talents in the world in whatever way is authentic for us.

These feminine qualities exist in all of us, women and men. Yet, the masculine-dominant culture has overlooked the feminine traits as unimportant, for the most part, and caused a disconnect in the hearts and souls of many.

For women in particular, this has caused untold pain and a loss of our basic essence and wholeness, a dimming down of our light and an inability to fully claim our gifts, talents and confidently express them in the world.

However, there is an energetic shift now happening that is making this imbalance intolerable and women are taking note in droves. I speak to women every day who no longer feel satisfied with the old paradigm. They feel great unrest, dissatisfaction with the status quo and are yearning for deeper self-expression, fulfillment and happiness.

So what are we to do? How do we clear our blocks, fears, limiting beliefs and behaviors and emerge into a higher state of consciousness that can sustain our full power as women?

Last week I spoke about clearing codependency, connecting with one’s dreams and desires and dealing with negative, fearful thoughts.

Here’s 3 more strategies:

Three Steps to Reclaim Your Feminine Power

Three Steps to Reclaim Your Feminine Power

These are amazing times we live in…

Like never before, there are so many opportunities open to all of us to maximize our potential and fulfill our dreams.

I think many of us can feel it intuitively that big changes are afoot and the energy and consciousness on the planet is shifting at an unprecedented speed. We are all being called to heal and transform the unhealed parts of ourselves. This can feel exhilarating one day and daunting the next. It is a bit of a roller coaster ride and it’s not going to slow down anytime soon.

As a matter of fact, I feel the ride is only going to get faster and deeper…

One of the changes I see is more awareness and consciousness around the empowered feminine archetype and what it means and looks like to live from this place.  The energy of the divine feminine is becoming stronger on the planet now as our consciousness is shifting to a higher vibration and we are being called like never before to step into this more fully.

I am noticing in my clients, both women and men, that it is becoming increasing painful to stay disconnected from their feminine energy/power and to remain masculine-dominant like so many of us have lived in the past.

By feminine energy I mean that part of us that is open, receptive, intuitive, creative, compassionate, nurturing, non-linear and connected to our feelings and emotions. While masculine energy is typically more goal and purpose driven, rational, linear, focused, protective, structured and about doing and achieving.

All of us, men and women, contain both masculine and feminine energy. It’s simply that our culture has historically favored the masculine over the feminine and created an imbalance that is now coming to be corrected.

So how do we do this? How do we begin to honor and unveil this potent feminine energy that yearns to be revealed in order to heal us both individually and collectively?

Five Steps to Upgrade Your Brain for Success

by Nancy Harris Leave a Comment

Success Starts Here Freeway Style Desert Landscape

I speak to clients all week long who come to me with problems they want to overcome and goals they want to achieve. Sometimes they have been struggling for years trying to create change and improvement in difficult areas of their life. They may have visions and dreams of a better future, happier relationships, enhanced financial prosperity and vibrant health, but despite years of trying, they simply can’t make it happen.

Why is change so hard?

One of the reasons they may feel so stuck and frustrated is because even though their conscious mind says it wants these changes, the subconscious mind is often the one in control. It is estimated that approximately 95 % of our thoughts and beliefs stem from the subconscious mind and many of these beliefs are fearful, negative and based in survival thinking. The subconscious mind is basically the repository for all of our fear and negativity and its job is to keep us “safe”.

The thoughts stemming from our subconscious mind have often been there since childhood and are deeply wired into our brain by the time we reach adulthood. Essentially, our brain is full of neural networks that keep us thinking the same thoughts and acting in the same ways even when a part of us doesn’t want to.

It used to be thought that once we got older it  wasn’t possible to change much of this hardwiring in the brain, however we now know this is not true. Neuroplasticity, or brain plasticity, is the ability to change and rewire our neural networks and this can be done at any age.

So, how do we rewire the brain for less of what we don’t want and more of what we do?

Are You Floundering With Your Calling? Maybe This is Why…

by Nancy Harris Leave a Comment

Are You Floundering With Your Calling? Maybe This is WhyI believe everyone has a calling or purpose for being here.

We may have multiple callings over the span of a lifetime and most of us feel restless and unfulfilled if we are not doing them.  I have especially witnessed that as we reach our 40’s and  50’s it seems to become increasingly uncomfortable if we are not living our life in alignment with our deeper purpose. It is as if, on some level, we know we are running out of time to do what we came here to do.

A calling isn’t necessarily a job or career, although it may take that form. From what I can see, a calling is a deep yearning of our soul to express our gifts and talents and to be of some kind of service to others.

It is the rare person who knows at a young age that they are meant for a certain calling, yet I have heard some say, “I knew as a kid I was supposed to be a teacher, a doctor, a writer,” etc.

I am currently reading the popular book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, and the author of that book describes how she was obsessed with tidying up her family’s home as a very young child. She would buy housekeeping magazines and search for the tips on organizing and decluttering as a young schoolgirl and has now created a flourishing career in Japan as the leading expert in her field.

She’s one of the lucky ones. Most of us muddle through life doing what is expected and required of us and are fortunate if we end up expressing our true talents and gifts. Our school system, socialization and parents, as well meaning as they may be, often steer us away from what lies in our hearts and teach us to listen to rational thinking and logic which rarely lead us to our true calling.

The answers to life’s biggest questions do not come from our rational minds.
